Frequently Asked Questions

Is SecureLawn a franchise?

Absolutely not. We are a locally owned and operated spray services company that customizes our treatments for Middle Tennessee lawns. This provides us the flexibility to adjust treatments as mandated by our ever-changing climate. We are constantly being educated, through our vendors, of the most effective products on the market for Middle Tennessee.

Do I have to sign a contract?

No. Our philosophy is that your lawn will speak for itself. If you are not completely satisfied with the quality of our products and services then it does not make sense for you to be locked in a long-term contract.


What makes Securelawn different from your competitors?

We get asked this important question all the time and it always comes back to one thing….OUR EMPLOYEES! While the State regulates the types of products that are applied to your lawn, we regulate who applies the products. Our applicators are not only compensated for applying your product but also for customer retention. In addition, we do not set unrealistic daily production goals that would be an excuse for an applicator to rush through your treatment to get to the next lawn. Like a good sports team that focuses on one game at a time, we focus on one yard at a time. 

How long will my lawn take to look good?

This is a very subjective question. Everyone’s definition of “good” is different. Our goal is to set proper NOT unrealistic expectations. For example, if you want it to look like a “golf course” then this requires a lot of help by the homeowner to include: proper irrigation, proper mowing, seeding, aeration, selective weed control, etc. Our program is designed to provide proper nutrients for a healthy lawn and an effective weed control through pre-emergent and post-emergent broadleaf weed controls. The bottom line is you want and we will design a program to meet your expectations.

What can I do to help my lawn look better?

Proper mowing height 3″-4″ for Fescue lawns is recommended. DO NOT scalp a Fescue lawn or it will create an ideal environment for weeds to grow. Bermuda lawns should be mowed a 2″-2 1/2″ during peak growing months.

Do I need to water my lawn?

Absolutely! Like every living thing, your turf needs water to flourish, grow and survive. Ideally, Middle Tennessee needs 10-20 minutes of water 3-4 days per week during the Spring and Summer months.

Why does my lawn look worse along the sidewalk and road during the summer months?

These are very difficult areas to maintain a thick stance of Fescue during the summer months. Keep in mind that Fescue thrives between 65-80 degrees in Middle Tennessee. The problem is that we reach temperatures in the high 90’s to low 100’s during the summer months and it is MUCH hotter where your lawn is exposed to concrete borders. More frequent watering is required in these areas.

What if it rains after a treatment?

Neither the granular or liquid treatments applied SHOULD be affected by the rain. The majority of the of the products used require water to maximize the application’s performance. If you think about it, the water carries the product into the soil and that is where we want it to go.

How soon can I mow after a treatment?

Proper mowing will not interfere with the treatment. However, It is best to wait 24 hours after a weed control treatment to ensure optimal results. 

When is the BEST time to seed?

Fescue-In Middle Tennessee we strongly recommend only seeding a cool season grass between September and mid-November. This allows for maximum germination rates preparing your turf for the Spring. If you choose to seed in the spring (March/April) your germination rates decrease significantly and you will not be able to apply pre-emergent or spring-time weed controls. You cannot grow grass seed and prevent weeds at the same time.

How long must I stay off my lawn after a treatment?

We recommend staying off your lawn for 1-2 hours after a liquid treatment allowing it optimal time to dry. We always leave a sign behind in your lawn after a treatment that has the time and date visibly displayed.

Are your products safe for my Kids and Pets?

Yes. We are regulated by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture that monitors the number of products that we apply on each yard. The owner has a Master’s Degree in Safety and Environmental Management and we take our customer, employees and public safety very seriously.

Are your applicators certified?

Yes. The Department of Agriculture requires all of our applicators to possess a Category 3 pesticide license. We are also required to earn continuing education points each year. This is monitored through state agencies.

Is your weed control effective on ALL weeds or unwanted grasses?

The short answer is NO…. Our basic program is designed to focus on broadleaf weeds (i.e. clover, henbit, dandelions, etc.) and crabgrass by applying pre-emergent. Common weeds in Middle Tennessee that may require a selective weed control include: Nutsedge, Johnson grass, Wild Violets, etc. The reason for this is two-fold. First, not every home in Middle Tennessee are exposed to the “difficult to control” weeds. Second the products are VERY expensive to apply and if included would significantly increase your per application rates. We do offer programs specifically designed for your lawn to include the “difficult to control” weeds. Ask your technician for details. Keep in mind that if you ever have a question or feel your lawn has an excessive amount of weeds, all of our customers on the full annual program receive free service calls.

How do we pay an invoice?

You can manage your account from your customer portal. You can pay with either Visa or MasterCard. You can also set up as an auto pay so that your credit card is run after every application. You will receive an email notification that it has been charged. You may also mail in a check or credit card number using the perforated portion of the invoice and the envelope provided.
